So, there was an app that turned up in the latest build of Teams (I saw it in Windows 1.5.00.16653 (64-bit)).
It was called “Updates”:
The “scary” thing was that it wasn’t possible to control this app using app permission policies within Teams. It is a Microsoft app AND can be disabled…
So Microsoft released an app called “Updates”. I had to read the “user” level documentation from the Microsoft website, to see what this was all about. Because I had, in my mind that it was all about “updating” the actual Teams app. So, in a weird way, there was a “publicly” available app that could control the version that you could install.
I thought that would be great! BUT, alas no, I could not install different versions. Reading about it though, it looks like you can put in tasks, questionnaires and then assign them for certain people to review and to answer:
The grandiose thing for many tenant admins / users / bosses, is that this app cannot be disabled with the app permission policies.
So, to alleviate the panic, gnashing of teeth and shouting there is a section in the technical article for Updates, which tells people how to disable it.
I do think that this is more a “why can’t I use the app permission policy to do it…. HUUUURMMPHH”.
So, the lesson is there is a place to disable the new Microsoft Teams Update app, which isn’t controlled by the app permission policy.
