about getting on that horse

Yes, it’s a life story about me. Well, not a life story, just a little snippet.

So, about 8 years ago, I was in Seattle… On a business trip. And as you know business trips involve going to a baseball game. It was fantastic and the photos of it were amazing.

I went back to the hotel, and on my way back I must have fell over.

Because the next thing I knew I woke up, in a hospital in the UK (where I lived). So I somehow had travelled thousands of miles WITHOUT knowing it or being awake.

It’s then I realised when I touched my skull. That there was a bit missing.

I had fallen over, hit the back of my head. Making my brain travel forward and then hit the inside front of my skull. The security people who found me called an ambulance and got me to the hospital. Where I got my skull cut open and the pressure that the brain was under, was released.

Part of my MRI showing upper right of brain.

So that meant I spent about 5 months of my life without a bit of my skull (it was put back later) and in recovery.

“What has this got to do with development and work?”, I hear you scream. Well, the side effect of the brain being knocked about was that my memory was wiped a bit. The ability of my brain to retain new information was greatly reduced.

So, learning to code was a new mission of mine. I remember some of it, and when I do get ‘keyed’ into it, it feels like the good old days. Those days are few and far between.

So, when you see posts on this blog about how to code, negotiate and think… please bear in mind that I am as thick as you think I am 🙂
