teams PSTN Numbers lost due to group licensing

Losing PSTN phone numbers in Teams can be frustrating, especially when the tenant admin team has done nothing wrong. If you license numbers through groups, removing and adding back users can be a bit dodgy, and it’s important to use the associated service plan with care.

It’s a quick one though. The issue is not an issue, really.

When numbers are licensed through groups, it can be a bit dodgy when removing and adding back users. A service plan that is associated with a group should be used carefully.

The service plan that has PSTN, comes under the SKU MCOEV, have a look here for a view of the SKUs under O365 now.

In this instance, when the user is removed from the group, the user is removed from the MCOEV service plan AND the PSTN number for that user is reset. When the user is added back to the group, the MCOEV service plan is added back on BUT the previously assigned number is still “nothing”.

So, removing the service plan from a PSTN user with an assigned number, will reset the PSTN number of that user to nothing. The O365 system will not remember the previous PSTN number when the user is re-assigned to the group. The user, theoretically, can make and/or receive PSTN calls, but the PSTN number is nothing.

And that’s that! 🙂
